1910s Porcelain Figural Mantel Clock by Mercedes – As Is, Cobalt Blue Gold

$108.00
An early-1900s Mercedes figural mantel clock with serious Art Nouveau drama. Two classical maidens join hands around a round dial while two playful cherubs lounge along the base. The case is glazed porcelain with a deep cobalt blue backdrop, iridescent white body, soft green drapery, and generous gold scrollwork, topped by a sculpted pastel flower.

The movement is not currently running. The hands can be adjusted but the clock does not tick, so it’s being sold as a decorative statement piece or restoration project. Even as-is, it’s a striking centerpiece for a mantel, sideboard, or display shelf.

📚 Historical Context

Mercedes Clock Co. was a German maker active in the early 20th century, known for ornate table and mantel clocks produced for export. This style of flowing robes, sinuous curves, and romantic figural scenes sits firmly in the Art Nouveau period, just before styles began shifting toward simpler Art Deco geometry.

Porcelain figural clocks like this were often sold through finer jewelry shops and department stores as luxury décor, meant to show off both the artistry of the porcelain and the precision of a German movement.

✨ Condition Notes

- Clock does not run. Hands can be adjusted but there is no ticking; sold as is / for repair or display.
- Dial shows scattered spotting and age toning under the glass.
- Gold trim has noticeable wear and small losses, especially along the front base scrolls and edges.
- Front base has a visible chip/rough area to the porcelain and gilding (see close-up photos).
- Small losses and wear to paint on the sculpted flower at the top and light speckling/marks in the glaze from age.
- Both of the lower cherubs have a small round opening at the back of the head. These may be original vent holes from the molding/casting process, but I’m not certain, so they are being clearly called out. Please review the photos.
- Underside shows typical shelf wear and soiling from more than a century of use.
- No obvious large cracks or repairs seen, but expect light surface marks and manufacturing imperfections consistent with antique hand-finished porcelain.
- Overall, this is a display-worthy antique case with a non-working movement, ideal for collectors, decorators, or a clockmaker who wants a restoration challenge.

📏 Measurements

Height: ~12 in
