Set sail into horological history with this stunning Schatz Royal Mariner 1881 ship’s wheel clock — a gleaming tribute to Germany’s proud maritime precision. Crafted in West Germany by Aug. Schatz & Söhne, this large brass and mahogany wall clock embodies the look and spirit of a ship’s helm.

The solid brass case, lacquered wood wheel, and 11-jewel mechanical movement mark it as one of Schatz’s premier postwar models. The crisp white dial features 24-hour markings, a ship’s bell emblem, and the original Royal Mariner insignia. Measuring approximately 14 inches across, this piece commands attention in any captain’s study or coastal-inspired home.

This clock is fully intact with its hinged front bezel, locking latch, and clear convex glass crystal. It runs and keeps time accurately. The dial’s switch allows for optional ship’s bell chime silencing.

Condition:
Excellent overall vintage condition with minimal wear consistent with age. The brass has been gently polished and retains its bright finish. The mahogany wheel shows one small nick between the 6 and 7 o’clock handles (visible in photos) that does not affect structure or display. Movement is clean, tested, and keeps accurate time.

Dimensions:

  • Diameter: ~14 inches

  • Depth: ~4.5 inches

  • Origin: West Germany

  • Movement: Mechanical, 11-jewel

  • Material: Brass & Mahogany

The “Royal Mariner” line pays homage to traditional marine chronometers and was produced primarily during the 1970s–1980s. The “1881” inscription honors the founding year of Schatz, one of the most respected names in German clockmaking.
