Vintage Tiffany Co. Portfolio Brass Carriage Clock with Original Pouch & Card
$158.00
sold out
An elegant vintage Tiffany & Co. Portfolio carriage-style desk clock, finished in warm brass with a crisp white Roman numeral dial, hinged carrying handle, and German quartz movement hidden behind its rear door.
It has that wonderfully serious executive-desk presence that late-20th-century Tiffany pieces do so well: traditional carriage-clock architecture on the outside, dependable battery-powered convenience underneath. The clock includes its original Tiffany & Co. drawstring pouch and Carriage Clock Care booklet, adding a particularly nice bit of provenance and presentation.
The clock has been tested and ticks and keeps time. It uses one AA battery.
📚 Historical Context
Tiffany & Co. started in New York City in 1837, when Charles Lewis Tiffany and John B. Young opened what was then a stationery and fancy-goods shop. From those fairly humble beginnings came one of America's defining luxury houses, eventually putting the Tiffany name on everything from diamonds and silver to watches and finely made desk accessories.
Fast-forward roughly a century and a half, and somebody at Tiffany looked at the ordinary office clock and decided it needed considerably more brass.
The Portfolio carriage clock took a form descended from old traveling clocks: the handle, rectangular case, Roman numerals, and substantial metal construction and brought it into the quartz age. Instead of winding a tiny mechanical movement every few days, there's a German-made Quartz 2100 movement behind the rear door doing the dirty work with a single AA battery.
The result is very much a product of its time: old-world formality meeting the polished executive-office aesthetic of the late twentieth century.
